Greetings Humans!
I’m Uncle Ed and I’m addicted to the beautiful game! I watch soccer as much as I can and If I could I’d watch till my eyes bleed but unfortunately I can’t.
I’m here to give you results and comments on games South of the border! Let’s start with Copa Libertadores:
I’m only going to mention one result from Wednesday and that was for an awesome game between America of Mexico vs. River Plate in Buenos Aires. If anyone caught a glimpse of it the final moments were intense with River coming back from a goal against to win the game in the final minutes thanks to Ariel Ortega’s strike! Final 2-1
In other results In Venezuela Colo Colo of Chile beat Maracaibo by 3-1 to recover after losing last week to Mexico’s Atlas (3-0). While Colombia’s Cucuta and San Jose of Bolivia tied 0-0.
Continuing with his terrible run coaching Mexico, Hugo Sanchez guided Mexico’s Under 23 to a 0-0 tie with Paraguay in Tijuana. This and their loss to Ecuador last Friday (1-0) is a bad sign of things to come as Mexico prepares for the Olympics. Does anyone out there dislike Hugo Sanchez as much as I do? I mean as a player he was no doubt one of the best Mexico has ever produced but he’s become an arrogant fellow and he weaseled his way into his current position by bad mouthing the previous coach (LaVolpe).
Speaking of Coaches Ecuador just named Sixto Vizuete their new coach after Colombian coach Hernan Dario Gomez rejected the job. Vizuete led the Ecuador under 18 team to a gold medal in the Pan American Games. Meanwhile 2 time WC veteran 28 year old Edison Mendez who plays for PSV Eindhoven quit the Ecuador national team claiming personal problems and fatigue. Mendez had also voiced his opinion criticizing Vizuete for his lack of experience. Hmmmm, I think its incredible that a player still in the prime of his career decides to all of a sudden "quit" his national team. You would imagine anyone would be proud and would go out of their way to do it! Look at Beckham, a player that makes tons of money, yet injured, fatigued or not he would do anything to play for England. Yup, some people just don’t have the heart and love for their national team… and thats the way the cookie crumbles!
